Filmmaker Omkar Pethkar Brings ‘Drop Out’ To The Big Screen With A Bold New Vision
Mumbai / Ahmedabad
Ahead of the release of his upcoming film Drop Out on May 29, 2026, Vadodara-based filmmaker Omkar Pethkar is drawing attention not just for his film, but also for the unconventional journey that led him to cinema. Produced by Umashanker Yadav, who also plays an important character in the film. the film reflects themes of individuality, choices, and breaking away from societal expectations.
At a time when science and commerce streams were widely seen as the only secure routes to success and financial stability, Pethkar chose to take a different direction. After completing his 11th and 12th in commerce, he decided to move towards arts, driven by a deeper interest in storytelling, society, and creative expression.
He went on to pursue graduation in Political Science along with a Diploma in Dramatics, before later entering the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. However, instead of choosing the conventional route of television journalism, he stepped into creative writing and began his professional journey as a copywriter.
Over the years, Pethkar expanded his creative work by writing a Gujarati play, adapting a Kannada novel for theatre, and working across multiple storytelling formats. His transition into cinema happened through practical experience as an assistant director, eventually paving the way for him to become a filmmaker.
Now, with Drop Out set to release on May 29, 2026, Pethkar’s journey itself has become a reflection of the film’s central message — choosing one’s own path despite societal pressure and predefined notions of success.
